Manufacturing and Engineering Photography with NORD Gear UK

Sector: Engineering – Motors and Drive Systems for UK Manufacturing

About the client

NORD Gear is a specialist engineering business supplying motors and drive systems to organisations across the UK and Ireland’s manufacturing sector. Based in Abingdon-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, NORD Gear supports customers through sales, after-sales service, assembly and production – with highly skilled mechanical and electrical engineers at the centre of the operation.

NORD Gear’s brief

NORD Gear wanted a refreshed image library that felt consistent, modern and representative of the team behind the business.

The brief focused on two elements:

The images were commissioned for use across the website, LinkedIn, email profiles, internal systems and press activity – supporting a consistent visual identity across key touchpoints.

The Challenge

Manufacturing businesses often rely on stock imagery that looks polished but generic – and rarely reflects how the business truly operates.

Photographing a live production environment requires a different approach: working calmly around busy teams, complex processes and specialist machinery without interrupting day-to-day activity.

The objective was clear – to create natural, technically credible photography that feels consistent across departments and remains practical for long-term marketing and internal use.

The Approach

Team Headshots

Headshots were created on site using a consistent setup, giving the whole team a unified look while still allowing each person time, direction and support.

Whether on the factory floor or in an office-based role, everyone received the same level of care and attention – resulting in a cohesive set of headshots that reflects the strength of the team.

Teams in Action – Storytelling on the Factory Floor

Alongside headshots, we documented engineers and production teams working in their day-to-day environment.

The focus was on natural, credible moments – interaction with machinery, detailed technical work, and the breadth of capability within the Abingdon facility. The intention wasn’t to stage the space, but to show it honestly and confidently.

Graphic & Detail Images

In addition to people-focused images, we captured graphic and detail shots of components, textures and engineered elements within the environment.

These images create useful design assets for presentations, brochures, website banners and background graphics – extending the value of the shoot beyond straightforward documentary coverage.

The Outcome

NORD Gear now has a cohesive image library that supports both external marketing and internal communications.

Instead of generic stock visuals, the business can now show its engineers at work, the environment they operate in, and the standard they deliver – strengthening confidence with customers, partners and prospective recruits.

Nick made the entire experience smooth and professional

We partnered with Nick Cole Photography to refresh our staff headshots and capture updated images of our production facility. Nick provided helpful guidance beforehand, putting everyone at ease during the shoot, and delivering the edited photos promptly. We’re delighted with the results and the exceptional quality of the images he produced.

Why This Matters for Manufacturing & Engineering Businesses

For technical organisations, credibility is critical.

Authentic commercial photography helps potential clients quickly assess professionalism, competence and capability. It also differentiates a business from competitors relying on stock imagery and reinforces the quality of the team behind the work.

A well-planned image library continues to deliver value over time. The same photography supports recruitment, website updates, sales material, PR and internal communications – improving consistency and clarity at each stage of the decision-making process.

For established manufacturing businesses, that clarity helps build trust and supports commercial growth.
