Travels in Southeast Asia

What an incredible trip!

My wife, Gaynor, and I had an amazing escape to Southeast Asia. We visited the islands of Thailand, spent time with friends in Bangkok and Singapore, and travelled the length of Vietnam before ending in the cultural city of Chiang Mai in northern Thailand.

We used every kind of transport imaginable, immersed ourselves in the history, culture, and food of Vietnam, and were blown away by the warmth and hospitality of everyone we met.

I feel so lucky to have had this extended break with a different pace of life. It’s given me time to step back, create new ideas, and recharge!

The tech we have now has been a game-changer too. Staying in touch with clients to plan photoshoots and projects for the next quarter has been super easy – thanks to all my clients for being so supportive while I was away.

The photography on our trip was amazing. The light in Southeast Asia at this time of year is just incredible. It’s bright and full of colour, and life is so vibrant on the streets. You’re never far from something interesting to photograph. The challenge is finding an unusual scene, an image that makes you think, or capturing a beautiful scene in a unique way.

I set myself a challenge to photograph the whole trip with a pancake prime lens on a Fuji XT4. It’s a lightweight setup with just one focal length, but it’s still incredibly powerful and can take stunning photos. Using a single prime lens forces you to slow down, move your feet, and be more intentional with your photography. It was a game-changer and so rewarding to simplify the photography experience.

Now it’s back to work – helping businesses tell their story with photography. The next few months are going to be busy with client projects in the legal, tech, biotech, manufacturing, and research sectors, to name just a few, and I can’t wait to get started!

And finally, here are a few of my favourite photos from the trip – enjoy the colour!
