About the client

AKC provide strategic and financial consultancy to a wide range of farm and agricultural businesses, along with traditional accountancy services. Based in the heart of rural Wiltshire, they’re close to their agricultural clients across the South of England.

Following a recent move to their new office, the partners were keen to refresh their team photos and show their new base in a converted barn.

When it comes to creating relaxed team photos, it’s important to capture the character of the business, but where do you start and how relaxed is too relaxed?

AKC’s brief

With financial consultancy at its heart, it was important for AKC that their professionalism came across in their photos. But that doesn’t mean the photos have to be formal or stuffy.

The technical knowledge is essential, but the people skills, the client relationships and the teamwork all combine to create the business culture. For AKC this was just as important and they were keen to create a set of team photos that captured their friendly and approachable manner.

Our approach

AKC’s new offices are part of a rural barn conversion which was perfect to support the visual storytelling. With oak beams and high ceilings, the space felt right.

During the planning calls we had already discussed outfit choices and getting the office ready for the photo shoot, ensuring all went smoothly.

Large windows brought in plenty of natural light and this was balanced with additional flash lighting. The use of artificial flash creates more controlled lighting and delivers a consistent look and feel across the images.

With the lighting sorted we could focus on the storytelling elements to capture the character and personality of the team.

As we mentioned earlier, capturing relaxed team photos is at the heart of this type of photo shoot. Being photographed in front of your colleagues and acting naturally isn’t easy though. However, by creating the right atmosphere and using some simple techniques, we can help even the most camera shy to relax and shine.

The result 

This approach brings together all the variables – the location, the outfit choices, lighting style, energy, personality and atmosphere. Their individual contribution is subtle, however when combined they create a set of team photos that feel warm and professional. Ultimately meeting the client’s brief – relaxed but not too relaxed.
