When I’m away on holiday, with the luxury of more time on my hands I love to get my camera out. I don’t set out to photograph the famous landmarks, it’s about capturing the essence of a place and always looking for the light and interesting people.
Porto has so many sides with old cramped streets and what seemed like endless building work as the city regenerates. There’s also wonderful urban spaces with stunning parks and squares. The most important space is where the River Douro cuts through the city, introducing light and wind and depending on the time of year, sea mist and fog. Here are a series of pictures that show the light and shade of the city, along with the locals and tourists enjoying the open spaces and views.
